Alzheimer’s Jamaica was incorporated under the Companies Act, as a Limited Company on the 9th of August 2006. Company number: 72647.
AlzJA is committed to raising awareness about dementia through public education and reducing stigma by encouraging people to talk more openly about dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. And we aim to provide practical support via research collaborations and lobbying for PLWD throughout Jamaica.
For example, AlzJA is a proud partner on the STRiDE Dementia project. STRiDE stands for ‘Strengthening responses to dementia in developing countries’. Jamaica is one of 7 countries in the three-year study (along with Brazil, Mexico, India, Indonesia, South Africa and Kenya) and our research will be focusing on learning about how much dementia is costing Jamaicans so we can prepare as a country to better manage the cost as dementia numbers increase.
In October 2017, Alzheimer’s Jamaica underwent restructuring to better serve Persons Living with Dementia (PLWD) and their families. Our current priorities are:
Building strategic partnerships both at home and abroad
